Ahead of the CP+ show, which starts on Thursday, Sigma has announced four new lenses, including three in its high-end Art range.
Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art lens: Features

The new Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art Lens
Perhaps the most interesting of the lenses is the new Sigma Art 14mm f/1.8 lens DG HSM lens. At the time of writing this, it is the widest lens to feature an f/1.8 aperture. Impressively the lens is designed for full frame, 35mm size, sensor cameras and it will come in Canon EF, Nikon F and Sigma mounts. It is also fully compatible with the Sigma Mount Convert MC-11, which will allow Canon EF mount versions of the lens to be used on Sony E mount cameras. When used with APS-C sensor cameras it will have the equivalent field of view to a 21mm lens, which should make it a popular choice all round.
As we have come to expect from Sigma’s Art lenses, the 14mm f/1.8 has a premium construction, with a brass lens mount and 9 rounded aperture blades for smooth bokeh. The lens is also dust and weather sealed and the front element has an oil repellent coating, making it easy to keep clean. Using a HSM AF motor should ensure fast and quiet focusing, and the Nikon version of the lens has a electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism, which ensures stable auto exposure control with compatible Nikon cameras.

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Art lens: Features

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 Art Lens
Top of many photographers wish list will be the new Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Art lens. Again, their has been no compromise with the construction of the lens and it shares an almost identical set of features to the 14mm lens, dust and weather proofing and a solid metal construction. It uses a new HSM motor that offers 1.3x the torque of its predecessor, for better AF precision at slower AF speeds. However, you can override the AF at any point as the lens has a full time manual focus ring. Once, again it is it compatible with Sigma’s MC-11 mount converter, so the Canon version can be used on Sony E mount cameras.

Sigma 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art lens: Features

Sigma 13mm f/1.8 Art Lens
The last of the three new Art lenses is the Sigma 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art lens. With such a large maximum aperture on a mid range telephoto lens, this looks like another lens that won’t compromise on quality for size and weight. Again, it has all the key features of the other Art lenses, and promises excellent detail resolution to cope with the demands of the latest generation of 50m-million-pixel full frame camera sensors. It should become a favourite amongst portrait photographers, and it is one that we cannot wait to test.

These lenses are designed to offer quality but in an affordable package. As such the lens features an impressive 100-400mm focal length that is perfect for wildlife and sports photography, but with a smaller f/5-6.3 aperture allowing it to be smaller and lighter compared to fixed focal length telephoto lens. The 100-400mm range is extremely popular amongst enthusiast wildlife photographers, and it could be the new champion if the image quality can match expectation.
