Smartphone cameras have been steadily improving for some time now, and are being embraced as professional tools by photographers and filmmakers alike. There are even Hollywood movies have been shot on iPhones.

It makes sense, therefore, that LG is diving headlong into this market with the V30, a phone with some serious professional-grade video specs. Let’s take a quick look.

LG V30: A pro video tool

At the heart of the V30’s muscle are its dual cameras – a 16MP main camera with an f/1.6 aperture lens, and the secondary 13MP camera with an f/1.9 lens.

The LG V30 promises to be able to record 4K 30fps video at 10-bit colour depth with LG Cine-Log gamma encoding. Its 10-bit HDR sensor can capture up to 1.07 billion colours and 800% larger dynamic range, allowing for greater flexibility in post-production.

For those who want to turn around and share their footage more quickly – one of the major plus points of a phone, after all – the V30 also comes loaded with a selection of 16 colour grading presets. A function called 1Quick Video Editor further facilitates this, allowing for the quick merging and trimming of images and videos, with the option to quickly add text and/or music.

The V30 can also record slow-motion video in Full HD at up to 240fps, and zoom control functionality allows users to zoom smoothly in on any area in the frame.

It’s worth bearing in mind that this is all marketing material, and we’ll need to get hold of the phone ourselves to see what it’s really capable of. With that in mind, we’re planning to get hold of the V30 as soon as possible to put it through a thorough testing – keep checking back.

In the meantime, you can find out more about the V30 at LG’s website.
